Christmas 2013

When Jesus Christ was born, the wise men came from the East to worship Him.  These wise men were true astronomers.  They were not flippant in reading the horoscope, as many do today, for guidance and instruction.  How foolish to rely on man’s assumptions instead of God’s eternal Word.  These wise men knew from their true studying of the stars what and where they were going.  When the wise men visited Jesus, he was almost 2 years of age, living in a rented house with his parents.  The wise men entered into the home, knelt down, and worshipped the Child Jesus.  This child they came to worship was and is the King of kings and Lord of lord’s.  The wise men knew this.  Their worship was a direct result of knowing the Christ child’s worth.  The word worship means, worthship.  Jesus Christ is worthy of worship because of who he is!

As the scene unfolds in Matthew 2, the wise men presented gifts to Jesus.  These gifts were Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh. Each gift had a direct meaning in regards to who Christ is and why He came to this world.

Gold represented Purity.  Jesus Christ is Holy, without Sin, the spotless Lamb of God, who came to seek and to save that which is lost.  This gift of gold  was for a Mighty Potentate.  King Of kings.

The next gift the wise men presented was Frankincense.  This was a white powder and very fragrant.  The meaning of this gift speaks to us of the purity and fragrance of the life and ministry of our great High Priest.  It was a gift for a Ministering Priest.

The third and final gift was Myrrh. This was a costly spice which was used in the preparation of a body for burial.  Myrrh speaks to us of His great sacrifice and death on the cross. J.W. Peterson wrote a book called, Born To Die.   He wrote, “We cannot look at the cradle of Bethlehem without seeing the Cross of Golgotha. We cannot focus upon the innocency and humility of His birth, without seeing the agony of His death, and we cannot witness these wise men bowing down to Him, without hearing the crowd crying, Crucify Him, Crucify Him.”

What truly made these wise men wise?   They recognized Jesus’s worth!  To truly be wise,  people today, we need to first realize that we are sinners in need of a Savior.  Jesus Christ is that Savior!  Second, repent of your sin,s ask God for forgiveness.  Third, yield your new life to Him on a daily basis.  True Wisdom is from above.  Be wise this Christmas by coming to the King Of kings and Lord of Lords.

Recently my wife and I watched the movie, Courageous. This film speaks directly tothe heart of the problem today in the Church and the world. Where Are The Father’s!! As soon as I watched the movie and dried my eyes, I went straight to the computer and ordered The Resolution plaque. The words on this plaque are as follows;

”I Do solemnly resolve before God to take full responsiblity for myself, and my wife, and my children. I WILL love them, protect them, serve them, and teach them the Word of God. I WILL be faithful to my wife, to love and honor her, and be willing to lay down my life for her as Jesus Christ did for me. I WILL bless my children and teach them to love God with all of their hearts, all of their minds, and all of their strength. I Will train them to honor authority and live responsibly. I WILL confront evil, pursue justice, and love mercy. I WILL pray for others and treat them with kindness, respect, and compassion. I WILL work diligently to provide for the needs of my family. I WILL forgive those who have wronged me and reconcile with those I have wronged. I WILL learn from my mistakes, repent of my sins, and walk with integrity as a man answerable to God. I WILL seek to honor God, be faithful to His church, obey His Word, and do His will. I WILL courageously work with the strength God provides to fulfill this resolution for the rest of my life and for His glory.”

Then I signed it, dated it and had two other witnesses sign and date it as well. Some may read this and be stirred to make the proper changes by God’s Grace. Others will mock it, and others WILL consider themselves just fine. Meanwhile, our wives suffer in silence and our children rebel on every level. Joshua 1:9 reads, ” Have not I commanded thee, Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whither-soever thou goest“.

Where are you men of courage!

The Ministry of the Holy Spirit

The Ministry Of The Holy Spirit

Much as been said about the Holy Spirit of God.  I want to get right to the point.  The ministry that He has today is 3 fold to an unbeliever:

(1). He convicts of personal Sin. John 16: 9-11 reads, “ Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgement, because the prince of this world is judged.”  The ministry work of God the Holy Spirit convicts the sinner of personal sin.  Because a sinner is unrighteous and if he/she does not repent of his/her sin of unbelief in Jesus Christ the LORD, eternal Hell awaits.  The book of Revelation chapter 20 verse 11 states, “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away,and there was found no place for them.”   Verse 14 reads, “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.”  This is the second death.  Verse 15 says, “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”   Listen dear reader!  You must turn from your sin and repent and ask the Lord Jesus Christ to forgive you and wash you in His precious blood.  Receive the Lord Jesus Christ by Faith and he will give you pardon and eternal life with Him in Heaven versus eternal life without Him in Hell.  Next time we will continue our topic on point (2). ”The Teaching Ministry of the Holy Spirit.”
